Sometimes you just have to put down the camera. By Rogue Photographer Jason Franson.

I was working a shift for the Edmonton Journal the other day and they needed a weather feature. I came across an elderly woman, Ernie Lunz, who was chipping melting ice off of her driveway. It's not a wonderful photo but it's one in the bag for the day. But as I shot a few frames of Ernie I could see the 84-year-old was working hard to break down the two-inch-thick ice. I felt like someone should give her a hand so I put my cameras in the car and, instead of taking a lunch, I spent a half hour chipping ice. As we worked together to finish her driveway, we chatted about politics and, ironically, work ethic. When it was done and I was about to leave she told me to wait a minute. She went into her house and when she came out she brought a small bag of homemade shortbread cookies and a coke for me. It was a fine reward for a little hard work and taking some time to help someone out. Oh, and she made city front the next day.
